CHAT AWARDS / IDEAS & GUIDES
Friendsgiving awards for the people around your table
Use the chat as a doorway to thank-you stories, not as material for a roast. These twenty ideas suit a shared meal, a video call, or a small gathering. Choose five or six before dinner and let people pass. Cooking, spending money, and being constantly online are not entry requirements.
Choose the right kind of award
The existing Group Chat Awards Beta is free. It works with a supported WhatsApp text export or one Telegram JSON chat. Statistics describe the selected year or whole imported file, not a complete history. These ideas do not add new automatic awards to the tool.
Ask everyone before processing their conversation and again before sharing a card or quote. Keep names anonymous unless participants choose otherwise. Chat files are processed in your browser; they are not uploaded. A card you send to a messaging app is shared with that app and its recipients.

Make it an awards night
- A few days before the meal, ask whether people want a 15-minute gratitude round and invite private opt-outs.
- Choose five awards from different sections. Ask each person for one sentence beginning “I appreciated it when…”.
- After the main meal, read each approved example in about a minute. Invite a short response; do not require a speech.
- Keep food portions, costs, attendance, and private difficulties out of comparisons. Share a category if two stories fit.
- Finish with a collective thank-you and show any card to the people named before posting it back to the group.
