CHAT AWARDS / IDEAS & GUIDES
Christmas chat awards without the awkward roast
Make this an optional holiday game that works for friends celebrating in different ways. Pick categories about shared moments, thoughtful planning, and original jokes. Avoid gifts, spending, family circumstances, or travel as measures of participation. A remote friend can nominate and receive an award without being on a call all evening.
Choose the right kind of award
The existing Group Chat Awards Beta is free. It works with a supported WhatsApp text export or one Telegram JSON chat. Statistics describe the selected year or whole imported file, not a complete history. These ideas do not add new automatic awards to the tool.
Ask everyone before processing their conversation and again before sharing a card or quote. Keep names anonymous unless participants choose otherwise. Chat files are processed in your browser; they are not uploaded. A card you send to a messaging app is shared with that app and its recipients.

Human nomination
Make it an awards night
- Ask whether “Christmas” or a neutral “holiday” title suits the group. Keep participation and being photographed optional.
- Choose six categories and invite one approved example for each. Accept written nominations from people who cannot attend.
- Read one award between activities rather than making everyone sit through a long ceremony.
- Let the winner choose whether to respond or have a friend read their thanks. Avoid surprise calls or recordings.
- Before sharing a card, remove personal locations, travel dates, and private messages that were not approved.
