How to export a WhatsApp chat on iPhone or Android
Use the WhatsApp mobile app and keep the export on your own device. Choose text without media; this tool needs messages and timestamps, not photos or videos.
iPhone
- Open the conversation and tap the group name.
- Choose Export Chat, then Without Media.
- Save the export in Files on your iPhone.
Android
- Open the conversation, then More options → More → Export chat.
- Choose Without media.
- Save locally using the available file destination.
Import the text file, not a backup
If your phone saves a ZIP, extract it in your device’s file manager and select the .txt inside. This Beta accepts .txt and Telegram JSON, not ZIP uploads or encrypted WhatsApp backups. Open the tool, choose the file, resolve any day/month ambiguity and check the displayed date range.
Prefer local Files storage rather than emailing a private export. Clear the chat from the tool when finished; removing your exported file is a separate device action.
Menu names can vary by app version. If export is unavailable because of a chat privacy restriction, respect it; do not bypass it. An export is not a restorable WhatsApp backup. The tool cannot recover omitted or deleted history.
